The Hub Westhoughton is a community led project in the centre of Westhoughton. They didn’t have a website when we approached them and offered to design, host and manage the website for them. As this is a community project we have done this project for free to give something back to the community.
The Hub at Westhoughton offers a space for the community to get involved in classes and activities for all ages. Wether it be the Minecraft and Roblox coding classes, the support groups for seniors, playgroups for babies and toddlers or the many exercise groups which are held at The Hub. Howfen Radio is also broadcast from the Hub, which is a community run radio show.
The process for the design and development of the website begun with a meeting at The Hub. At the meeting we were able discuss what was required from the website and how they would like the website to be managed. The main requirement for the website was to give a platform for The Hub to display information about the classes and activities which are currently taking place. Another feature was to create a way for people who wish to get in contact with The Hub to be able to do so easily.
For the website design platform, we chose to use WordPress as the content management system (CMS). WordPress was chosen because it is secure and stable, we have also worked with the Genesis Framework on the FoodBlogs.co.uk website design. Once we had a wireframe website design setup for The Hub we got feedback on the design from the client and started to add content to the design.
With the content added to the website, we started to add to the website design so that it showcased the content. We captured video footage and photos of The Hub so that we had some professional quality images of the rooms to display the rooms they had for hire. The background for the header of the website is a video which was created by Bee Design Studio. The website is also linked with The Hub’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
With the content, website design and bells and whistles added we went back to The Hub at Westhoughton to discuss any final revisions which were needed. After some final tweaks we decided to put the site live on the internet and begin the SEO phase of the design process. We will be updating this post when we can show what we have been able to achieve with our SEO plans.
